How to Make a Crystal Ball that Talks Haunted House Illusion
Next, get a video camera and film the subject supplying the dialogue for the face. The dialogue could any information you want the head to say. Mask off the face so that the picture does not spill out beyond the face. For that, cover a two feet square piece of plywood cardboard with black felt, cut a hole and contour of the actor’s face. The actor put his face in the hole and is captured very close-up.
Aim the projector into the back of the wax head, which should be sufficiently thick to hold the projection. Instead of a wax head, you could also use a blank white, a translucent mask or a circle of white paper attached to the inside of the globe.
There are small fairly cheap video projectors on the market or you could use an old 8mm film camera. Put the movie on continuous loop, if you don’t want to rewind it after every performance. You could also try out with front projecting it onto the front of the head. For this, you have to hide the projector overhead of the group or by reflecting it under the table from a mirror.
You could also check the platters used by movie theaters to run their films to get ideas about making a continuous loop.
The method could be used also to project some scenes onto a painting on the wall to create some special effects in your house adding your place a touch of professionalism.
