This is what you have to do in order to produce the illusion of a disembodied head talking inside a crystal ball.

You need to create a  face, by carving it out of clay and casting it, or an actor’s face in plaster and shaping a wax face by pouring hot wax into the plaster cast. If you choose to mold a wax face, coat the mold with a coat of Vaseline. Once you have the face it needs to be scaled with a human face. Attach a wild looking hair to the edge of the head and leave the back open. You also need a round glass terrarium about 1 ½ feet in diameter where to place the head.
